Why Youth Media
PBS News Student Reporting Labs believes that thoughtful local reporting and the interdisciplinary work of videos production are powerful ways for young people to learn, civically engage, and find their power. Including the youth perspective in news coverage (behind and in front of the camera) is critical. We work to amplify student voices so that their perspectives are represented and respected.

“So much of what is accomplished in my classroom is thanks to the lessons you and SRL have taught me.”

Jean Biebel
Wauwatosa, WI
“I was totally bowled over. I was also, admittedly, overwhelmed a little by the challenges ahead–but only in a way that inspired me to want to meet those challenges. I really can’t say enough good things about this training and program.”

Joanna Greer
Silver Spring, MD
“I still have to pinch myself when I think of how I fell into this program. This is the most engaging educational program in the country. What else gives students a chance to research, collaborate, problem solve, create, write, speak, all for an authentic audience of the highest caliber?”

Michael Conrad
